Sony Revives Its Iconic WH-1000XM4 Headphones After Six Years With New Upgrades

Sony is bringing back one of its most popular wireless headphones, reviving the WH-1000XM4 six years after its original debut.

As reported by Gizmodo, Sony has introduced the $299 WH-1000XM4C, which keeps the familiar design of the original while adding several upgrades under the hood. The headphones feature new sound tuning and a 10-band EQ, compared with the five-band EQ offered on the original model.

However, Sony hasn't upgraded everything. Active noise cancellation still relies on the same four-microphone setup and Q1 noise-canceling processor, while battery life actually drops to 27 hours with ANC enabled, three hours less than the original XM4.

Still, the return is notable given how highly regarded the original model was for its noise cancellation, comfort and easy device switching. The new WH-1000XM4C is already available for preorder, with shipments expected toward the end of September.

Sony is also expanding its headphone lineup with the $70 WH-CH530 and $180 WH-CH730N, giving consumers more options across different price points.
