Apple may be preparing some significant upgrades for its next-generation Apple Watch models, including a new Readiness app, richer strength-training metrics, improved optical sensing and potentially 128GB of storage.
Code discovered in watchOS 27 points to a dedicated Readiness app separate from the existing Vitals app. The feature could give users deeper insights into recovery and how prepared they are for physical activity, potentially putting Apple in closer competition with fitness platforms from Oura and Whoop, according to MacRumor's report.
The software also includes infrastructure for tracking individual strength-training sets, repetitions, weight, equipment and body side, suggesting Apple is looking to make the Watch a more serious tool for gym users.
On the hardware side, references to a new Sunstone4p0 optical sensor family could signal improved heart-rate sensing, while firmware clues point to a possible jump from 64GB to 128GB of storage on upcoming models.
Apple is expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 alongside its latest products, making these rumored upgrades potentially some of the biggest changes to the Watch lineup this year.
